In the early hours of coronation day, the leader and five other members of the anti-monarchy group Republic were arrested near Trafalgar Square "on suspicion of going equipped for locking on". ![]() The Met have said that 52 of those arrests "related to concerns people were going to disrupt the event".Ī week before, the government's new Public Order Act came into effect, giving police greater powers to tackle new tactics groups such as Just Stop Oil and Extinction Rebellion have been using to disrupt key infrastructure and people's day-to-day lives. Police arrested 64 people during the King's coronation in London on Saturday. ![]()
